Obituary for Alice Elizabeth Shultz Lewis

Alice Elizabeth Shultz Lewis, born in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, passed away at the age of 91, on February 8, 2018, at Asbury Place, Maryville, Tennessee. During her early working years, Mrs. Lewis was a teacher at a Singer sewing store and a home service representative for East Ohio Gas Company and later Illinois Power. While working full-time and raising a family, she served as a Girl Scout leader. Her dedication to volunteerism was reflected in her later occupations as Director of Public Relations and Volunteers for the Knoxville Chapter of the American Red Cross and Director of Volunteer Services at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville. While working at the American Red Cross, she was certified as a National Instructor for authorized organization training. She was a member of the American Society of Volunteer Services of the American Hospital Association and served as President of the Tennessee Society of Directors of Volunteers.

Mrs. Lewis’s volunteer work continued after her retirement when she and her husband served as campground hosts at Indian Boundary in the Cherokee National Forest. A long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she shared her love of music by singing in the choir. She also served as the first female president of the church council.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles William Lewis. Immediate survivors include her daughters, Elizabeth (Rick) Anger, Marty Lewis, and Molly (Joe) Manning; grandchildren, Matthew (Elizabeth) Manning, and Melissa (Mike) Pfaff; great-grandchildren, Alice and Edith Manning, and Kip Pfaff; and brother, Dyson Shultz.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Blount Memorial Hospice Service.

Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maryville, TN, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.atchleyfuneralhome.com
