Obituary for Lena Whaley Campbell

Lena Whaley Campbell, age 90, of Sevierville passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born in the Greenbriar section of what is now the Great Smoky Mountain National Park to the late, Richard and Leola Whaley. Our Mother was a long-time member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church where she surely loved to sing. She loved her flowers and making beautiful quilts, but most of all she loved being with her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dean Campbell; daughter, Janie Sanders; sisters, Henrietta Carr and Bonnie Justus; brothers, Bill, Gordon, and Roy Wallace Whaley. Lena is survived by her daughters, Sandra Campbell, Zana Sluss and her husband, Bob; son-in-law, Herman Sanders; her grandchildren that she was so proud of, Polly and Andrew Sanders, Melissa and Joe Galentine, all of Sevierville, Michael and Sara Sluss of Chattanooga; the joys of her life were her 2 great-granddaughters, Amber and Laurel Galentine; sister, Liz Litherland; sister-in-law, Genetta Graves; brother-in-law, Brownie Campbell; special friend, Moleta McCarter; and her large extended family with scores of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 4-6 PM Wednesday, September 20th with the funeral service to follow at 6 PM in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. Rev. Lee Carr and Rev. Ken Lambert will be officiating. Family and friends will meet 10 AM Thursday at Cummings Chapel Cemetery for the graveside service and interment.
