Obituary for William Henry Hicks

William “Bill” Henry Hicks, age 71, went to be with the Lord on June 28, 2018, surrounded by loved ones after a long illness. Bill was born in Columbus, GA on June 30, 1946 to James Wilmoth Hicks, and Martha Crawford Hicks who have preceded him death. After High school, Bill joined the U.S. Coast Guard and transferred to the U.S. Army at the start of the Vietnam War. He served as a lineman in the Signal Corps keeping lines of communication open for our troops. He re-enlisted again and was honorably discharged with various citations and commendations. After the military, Bill worked in the telecommunications industry. Bill volunteered for The Red Cross, United Way of Sevier County, TEMA, ARRL HAM radio organization, Sevier County Emergency Radio Service, Toys for Tots, and other charitable organizations. He served his country, his community, and his loved ones.

He was a loving husband, a devoted father and grandpa, and a true friend. He will be missed.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Ann England, daughters Virginia “Ginger” Ann Hicks and Patricia “Patty” Lynn Hicks, grand-children Blake Powell Wingo, Brooklyn Cogin Wingo, Alyssa Mae Clark, step-sons Stuart England, Daniel England, step-daughter Melissa Gentry, and many in the community that he has touched and helped. We are sorry if we have left anyone out. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved 5 year old son Jameson “Jamie” Nicholas Hicks in 1989 to cancer. He was also preceded by a brother, Donald C. Hicks, and a sister Janet Lynn Champion.
