James Hugh Ogle, age 84 of Gatlinburg, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017. Hugh was born in Roaring Fork and attended First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg where he was a Deacon for many years.
He was a proud Army veteran. Hugh was an Architect by profession and with his mentor and business partner Hubert Bebb co-founded Community Tectonics Architectural Firm where he had a long and distinguished career designing many custom homes, schools and churches, including his home church, First Baptist of Gatlinburg and was proud that Community Tectonics was chosen to design the SunSphere for the 1982 World's Fair. Hugh was also an entrepreneur, and as partner in Huff and Ogle Enterprises had many local and regional restaurants as well as Mt. LeConte Lodge and Charit Creek Lodge. Hugh also owned, designed, and built some of the first overnight rentals and apartment buildings in Gatlinburg. Hugh loved the outdoors, fishing, hiking, and golf were his favorites. He was proudly involved with The Sevierville County Food Ministry, as a volunteer and later as a member of the steering committee, board of directors, designer of the new building and continued to draw long after retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Estel and Blanche Ogle;
His loving wife of 47 years, Barbara Trentham Ogle; and infant son Dennis Mitchell Ogle.
He is survived by his Daughter: Janet Newman and husband, John; Grandson: Garrett Newman;
Son: Barrett Hugh Ogle; Brother: Ray Ogle; Sister: Mattie Dixon; very special niece Debbie Franklin and husband Bud; and many, many friends.
Flowers may be sent to First Baptist Church in Gatlinburg and donations to Sevier County Food Ministry.
The family will receive friends 4-6 PM Thursday, June 15 at First Baptist Church Gatlinburg, with funeral service to follow at 6 PM.
