Stella Eslinger Ogle, age 95, passed over into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 9, 2017.
Born February 6, 1922, Stella was a faithful citizen of Gatlinburg for her entire life and will be remembered alongside her late husband, Luther “Coot” Ogle, as a pioneer of tourism in the community. Stella worked for several years with her husband at Ogle’s Buffet, Twin Islands Motel, Crossroads Inn, and Ogle’s Water Park. Stella was committed to raising her 5 children and working alongside her husband in their businesses for over 62 years. She loved telling, “In all the years we owned a restaurant, Mr. Ogle never fried an egg. But that’s alright because I fried enough for both of us.” She was committed to serving others both at home and internationally, launching over 70 churches, 9 medical clinics, and 2 orphanages in Haiti with her husband and family. Stella was a dedicated mother who loved to support and care for her family. She loved to cook and did so for her children everyday of her earthly life until only a few months ago. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, and many other family and friends. Stella was a charter member of Roaring Fork Baptist Church.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Luther “Coot” Ogle; father, Isaac Eslinger; mother, Sarah Elizabeth Ogle; brothers, Amos, Charles, Jessie, Zimmeary “Zim”, and Frank Eslinger; sisters, Mertie Bales and Lura Wilder; and son-in-law, Bob Burchfield.
Survivors include her Children: Mike and Sandy Ogle, Don Ogle, Brenda Burchfield, Bud and Cindy Ogle, and Phil Ogle; Grandchildren: Shawntal Ogle-Etherton, Kelly Ogle Goolsby, Michael Ogle, II, Candace Ogle Morton, Mitchell Ogle, Veronica Ogle McCarter, and Phillip Ogle, II; 17 Great-grandchildren; Several nieces and nephews; Special thanks to caregivers Janice Arion and Tina Clabough.
